A climbing session for beginners and pros to try the indoor climbing wall with auto belay and outdoor boulder at Bells Bend Outdoor Center.
Climbing Day is coming to the Bells Bend Outdoor Center on Wednesday, October 14, from 1 PM to 3 PM. It's part of the Outdoor Nashville program run by Metro Nashville Parks and Recreation, which puts on outdoor activities across Davidson County parks. This one is led by Outdoor Nashville leader Krista Allen.
The session is aimed at beginners of all ages, so it's a good entry point if you've never climbed before. You'll get access to the center's indoor climbing wall, which uses an auto belay system—that means the device handles the rope for you, so you don't need a partner to belay you. There's also an outdoor boulder with crash pads laid out, for when you want to move outside. Between the two, you can spend the afternoon switching from the wall to the boulder and back again.
On the gear side, harnesses are lent for the indoor wall, but you'll need to bring your own shoes, chalk, and any other gear you use. If you're just starting out, that's the main thing to have ready. The session is free, but you do need to register in advance to get a spot.
