A drama by David T. Payton and Annette Campbell exploring women's empowerment and liberation, featuring performances by Jennifer Holiday, Chrisette Michele and Lenny Williams.
When a Woman's Fed Up comes to the State Theatre on Sunday, November 1, at 3 PM. It's a play written by the late David T. Payton, who also wrote A Good Man is Hard to Find, and his life partner Annette Campbell. Campbell produced and directed this one, and it's a story about empowerment and liberation that follows women who have reached the point of no return. She describes it as a look at the raw, unfiltered side of relationships, and the play encourages audiences to break free from societal expectations and prioritize their own happiness.
The cast is a heavy-hitting mix of Grammy and Tony winners. Jennifer Holiday, who takes home both, shares the stage with Grammy winner Chrisette Michele and Grammy nominee Lenny Williams. Terrell Phillips, from Blackstreet, is also in the mix. They're joined by Patrice Lovely, Shirley Murdock, Karon Joseph Riley, Mike Jerel, and Kaiya Hamilton, with Jada Alexander, Sharon Hamilton, Eric M. Goodwin, Teresa Coleman, and Victor Alonza filling out the rest of the company. It's a large ensemble, so there's a lot of voice and presence on stage.
