Uncut 4K screening of Ken Russell's 1971 film 'The Devils', starring Vanessa Redgrave, Oliver Reed and Gemma Jones, at The Trylon Cinema.
The Trylon Cinema is bringing Ken Russell's The Devils back to the big screen starting Saturday, October 31, as part of their Evil Incantations series. It's a 4K projection of the 1971 film, which runs 111 minutes and stars Vanessa Redgrave, Oliver Reed, and Gemma Jones. The story follows the priest Urbain Grandier, who spurns a lustful nun; she responds by accusing him of witchcraft, and from there the whole thing spirals into a study of religious hysteria and persecution. It's the kind of film that earns its place in a series called Evil Incantations.
There's a bit of history that makes this particular run worth noting. The Devils was banned in several countries when it first came out, and it's been unavailable to screen theatrically for decades. This showing is presented uncut, so you're seeing it as Russell intended, not the trimmed-down versions that circulated for years. If you've only ever heard about the film's reputation, this is one of the few chances to actually sit with it in a theater.

It's not a one-night thing, either. The screenings run from Saturday, October 31, through Tuesday, November 3, with plenty of options to fit your schedule. Saturday is at 4:30 PM; Sunday has two showings, one at 5:00 PM and another at 7:30 PM; and Monday and Tuesday both run at 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM. You can catch it on a weekend afternoon or a weekday night, depending on when you'd rather dive in. The Trylon is at 2820 E 33rd St in Minneapolis.
