Mark Joseph & The American Soul play Cat Stevens' 'Tea For The Tillerman' in full, plus songs from his own career, with Dean Magraw and The Tillerman Choir.
Mark Joseph & The American Soul are back at The Hook and Ladder on Sunday, December 27, for their annual Tea For The Tillerman concert. The night is built around one big thing: they're playing Cat Stevens' legendary album Tea For The Tillerman in full. After that, they'll move into favorites from Joseph's own career, which stretches from The Big Wu to Palisade Peach.
Joseph is a Minneapolis artist who's spent the last few years charting a soulful course through American and Americana music. He's been drifting between blues, country, and psychedelic rock since his 2017 album American Soul, and he describes his fourth full-length, Palisade Peach, as a blues album in the truest sense—rooted in the 12-bar strains that echo the march of American music from the rural South to cities like Minneapolis and Chicago. The whole night is framed as a blend of music, family, and holiday spirit, led by one of Minnesota's hardest-working and most passionate artists.
He's not doing it alone. Dean Magraw opens the evening, and Ryan David Young and The Tillerman Choir join in for the Cat Stevens set. The venue is The Hook and Ladder Event Center, 3010 Minnehaha Ave, an independent, artist-driven, multi-use space housed in the historic Firehouse #21 in South Minneapolis' Longfellow neighborhood.
