Weekly Sunday farmers market with about forty vendors selling fresh produce, prepared foods, coffee and handmade crafts in MLK Park.
Kingfield Farmers Market is back at MLK Park on Sundays, 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM, from mid-May through the end of October. It's a produce-focused market, so the produce is the main event: fruits and vegetables from local farms, with prepared foods, coffee, and handmade crafts alongside Minnesota-made products. Most weeks you'll find around forty vendors gathered in the parking lot off 40th Street.
It's a neighborhood institution that started in 2001 through the Kingfield Neighborhood Association, which wanted to bring fresh food to the area and build community. It began as a single pickup truck full of vegetables parked behind Anodyne Coffeehouse and grew into the market it is today. It's been an independent nonprofit since 2008 or 2009, and it won City Pages' Best Farmers Market award in 2011 and 2013. The neighborhood association still shows up every week at a KFNA table, working to connect neighbors and keep them informed about community issues and projects.
If you're bringing kids, there's something extra on the first and third Sundays of each month: the Power of Produce (POP) Club. It gives children a chance to engage with local food, take part in educational activities, and receive a $2 market token to spend on fresh produce. The organization also runs several other South Minneapolis markets, including the Southwest Farmers Market on Saturdays and the Nokomis market.
