The Minnesota Orchestra, conducted by Thomas SÞndergÄrd, plays John Powell's Oscar-nominated score from 'How to Train Your Dragon' to picture.
How to Train Your Dragon in Concert comes to Orchestra Hall on Sunday, November 29, at 2 PM. It's a live-to-picture screening: the movie plays on the big screen while the Minnesota Orchestra performs John Powell's Oscar-nominated score right there in the hall, timed to the action. The music follows the story of Hiccup, a young Viking who befriends a dragon he names Toothless, and the whole thing is billed as a thrilling experience for audiences of all ages.
If you're not familiar with the orchestra, it's now in its second century and holds a Grammy Award, ranking among America's top symphonic ensembles. Danish conductor Thomas SÞndergÄrd began his third season as music director in September 2025, so this is part of the current season's programming. The performance runs about two hours including intermission, and the doors open an hour and a half before the start, which gives you plenty of time to get settled before the first note hits.
