Solo show written and performed by Holly Hughes, directed by Katie Pearl, in which a queer sleuth tracks the crimes of the patriarchy.
Holly Hughes brings her new solo show, INDELIBLE, to Bryant Lake Bowl in the Lyn-Lake Uptown neighborhood, with performances on Friday, November 13, Saturday, November 14, and Sunday, November 15. All three nights start at 7 PM.
INDELIBLE opens with the question "Is rape a crime?" and takes it from there. Hughes imagines a legendary and somewhat infamous lesbian performance artist hired by Anita Hill and Christine Blasey Ford to take on their casesβand then to solve every crime of the patriarchy. It's a sapphic sleuth story that draws on Brit Box mysteries and queer theory to track a patriarchy that has rebranded itself as irony. Hughes wrote and performs the piece in collaboration with Katie Pearl, who also directs it.
There's a fair bit of pedigree behind the show. Hughes is a 2011 Guggenheim Fellow in Drama & Performance Studies and a 2026 Ruth Maleczech Award recipient; she's currently a professor at the University of Michigan. Pearl is a co-founder of the PearlDAmour theatre company and is on the faculty at Wesleyan University. Together they've built a solo show that sits somewhere between a detective story and a piece of queer performance art.
