Holiday marketplace of glass art by local Minnesota artists, with artist talks, demonstrations and hands-on glass activities at Foci MCGA.
Foci Minnesota Center for Glass Arts is hosting its Holiday Glass Marketplace on Friday, December 19, from 12 PM to 4 PM. The center is at 2213 Snelling Ave in the Seward neighborhood, a nonprofit, public-access glass studio that moved into this spot five years ago.
The marketplace brings together glass art from local artists, and the range is wide enough to cover a few different kinds of shopping in one go. You'll find high-end home decor alongside smaller stocking stuffers, with sculpture, jewelry, tableware and ornaments all on the tables. If you're looking for a proper gift, there's the more substantial stuff; if you're just filling out a few bags, the smaller pieces work for that. The studio also offers a 10% discount on in-store gallery purchases when you present the announcement at checkout.
There's more to the place than just the shopping, too. Foci runs hands-on glass activities, artist talks and demonstrations throughout the year, and puts on juried exhibitions like Kilnforming in the Upper Midwest, which celebrates contemporary kilnformed glass by artists living and working in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. It's a working studio, so the marketplace is one part of what happens here.
