A free, family-friendly afternoon of hands-on printmaking with screenprinting and hand-coloring, open to all ages and experience levels.
Highpoint Center for Printmaking is hosting Free Ink Day: Screenprint and Hand-Coloring on Saturday, October 24, from 12 PM to 4 PM. It's part of their Free Ink series, a quarterly community program that lets you get your hands on a different printmaking technique every season. This time around, the focus is screenprinting and hand-coloring.
If you've never done it, screenprinting is a process where ink is pushed through a mesh screen onto paper or fabric to create a sharp, repeatable image. Hand-coloring comes in after that, where you add color by hand to the printed piece, so you can play with the final look rather than just sticking to what came off the screen. It's a good way to see how the two work together—the structure of the print and the freedom of the paint.
One of the best things about Free Ink is how it's set up. It's free, family-friendly, and open to all ages and experience levels, so you don't need to know a thing about printmaking to show up and start making. There's no registration required, which means you can just drop in whenever you're around that afternoon. The sessions run across the center's parking lot, classroom, and artists' cooperative, so you'll see the process happening in a few different spots at once.
