Exhibition curated by Edward Enninful on how art, fashion, photography and pop culture fused in 1990s Britain, with talks, tours and screenings.
The 90s: Art and Fashion is on at Tate Britain from 8 October 2026 to 14 February 2027, a look at British art, fashion, photography and pop culture throughout the 1990s. It's curated by Edward Enninful OBE, a figure from the fashion industry whose own lived experience of the decade shapes the show. He frames it as a period when a groundswell of creativity changed the face of British culture: as the country emerged from recession, a new dawn of optimism, freedom and rebellion arrived, epitomised by a new generation of diverse creative talent.
Seen through Enninful's eyes, art, design, fashion and photography fused into one potent cultural force, dismantling long-held hierarchies as high art and pop culture fed into one another. The exhibition gathers more than 100 works by close to 70 artists, photographers and designers. It also sounds in the music of the nineties, selected by the photographers who documented youth countercultures across Britain. The show runs alongside a programme of talks, tours, screenings and relaxed hours.
