Free drop-in Halloween mini-festival for children aged six and over and their families, with pick-and-choose spooky activities.
Spooktacular Family Day takes over the British Library on Saturday 31 October, a Halloween mini-festival for young readers and their families. It's part of the library's wider family programme, which runs festivals, under-5s sessions and artist-led workshops throughout the year, so this is one of the bigger dates in that calendar.
What makes it a bit different from a typical kids' day out is the format. Rather than a set schedule to follow, it's a drop-in day: you can turn up whenever suits and pick and choose the activities you want to do throughout the day. If you've only got an hour, that works; if you want to spend the whole morning there, you can. It's a good way to do it if you're juggling other things on a Saturday, as you're not racing to catch a specific session at a specific time.

Spooky outfits are encouraged, so it's a fine day to let the kids lean into the Halloween theme. The session is recommended for children aged six and over, and everyone needs to be accompanied by an adult. It's a free day, so there's no ticket to book in advance—just turn up at the British Library, 96 Euston Road, London, NW1 2DB, from 10:00 on Saturday 31 October.
