Bonfire Night weekend at Alexandra Palace with a fireworks and drone show, a giant bonfire, funfair rides, ice skating, street food and a German beer festival.
Alexandra Palace is bringing back its fireworks festival on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November, and it's one of the few Bonfire Night displays in London that stretches across a whole weekend. The Ally Pally has been doing this for over 150 years, and because it sits up on a hill with a panoramic view over the city, it's one of the biggest displays in the capital. The two days have a different feel to them: Saturday is the full festival night, and Sunday is a family-focused fun day with kids' menus and marshmallow fire pits.
Saturday's line-up is built around the Great Hall, where a German Bier Festival takes over with oompah bands and lederhosen-clad waiters. Outside, there's DJ Eats Everything, a brass band, and a Queen tribute act. Sunday shifts the mood, with 'Barrioke' fronted by Shaun Williamson and a Junior Jungle kids' rave. Both days share the same big-ticket attractions: a drone show by drone specialists, a fireworks display by Britain's Got Talent runners-up Celestial, a giant bonfire in the lower field, funfair rides, ice skating and ice discos, and the StrEATlife Village with over 50 street food vendors.
The drone show is a first for the Palace — hundreds of drones choreographed to a specially curated soundtrack, which they describe as a mix of hypnotic beauty and 'Black-Mirror-esque' dread. The whole weekend leans on the old Guy Fawkes tradition, with that massive bonfire in the lower field keeping crowds warm while they wait for the main events. It's a lot to fit into two days, so it helps to know which one suits you: the beer-hall party on Saturday or the family-friendly run on Sunday.
