Screening of the new screen adaptation of Jane Austen's 'Sense and Sensibility', directed by Georgia Oakley and adapted by Diana Reid.
Sense and Sensibility is showing at the Barbican Centre through Thursday 22 October, with the run having opened on Friday 25 September. It's a new take on Jane Austen's novel, directed by Georgia Oakley and adapted for the screen by novelist Diana Reid. The story is set in 1790s England and follows the elder Dashwood sisters: Elinor, the cautious and conscientious one, and Marianne, the headstrong and passionate one. They're both trying to find their place in the world, and dealing with the attentions of various suitors, after the family is moved from their grand home to a modest country cottage following the loss of their inheritance.
It's described as a charming, witty and deeply relatable story of love and sisterhood, and the cast brings together some familiar faces. Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles lead the way, and they're joined by George MacKay, Caitriona Balfe, Fiona Shaw, Frank Dillane and Herbert Nordrum. If you've seen any of them before, it's a good excuse to see them all in one room.
