Stand-up show by Brighton comedian Seann Walsh, billed as the UK's 'dishevelled king of stand-up', at Hackney Empire.
Seann Walsh is back at the Hackney Empire on Friday 23 October, with a brand-new hour of comedy he's calling This Is Torture — a title he says comes from the phrase he uses most in his life. It's his first tour since Back From The Bed, which sold out in 2023, so this is fresh material rather than a run of old favourites.
If you haven't come across him, Walsh is a Brighton-based comic who first stepped onto a stage in 2007. He didn't take long to make a mark, winning the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year within two years. From there, he picked up a Chortle Best Breakthrough Act nomination in 2010 and a Best Compere nod in 2011, and by 2016 Ents24 had him on their list of the ten hardest-working comedians in the country. The Guardian called him "unquestionably the best observational comic of his generation," which sums up the sort of thing he does: spotting the absurdities in the everyday and working them into a set.
He's a familiar face on TV, too. You'll recognise him from Live at the Apollo, The Wheel, 8 Out of 10 Cats, The Last Leg, and I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, as well as The Stand Up Sketch Show, Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled and World's Most Dangerous Roads. This is a proper stand-up show, though, with Walsh as the sole act on the bill.
