Dexys Midnight Runners, led by Kevin Rowland, play the Hackney Empire with their new album 'LOVE'.
Dexys Midnight Runners play the Hackney Empire on Tuesday 27 October. It's a London date on their current run, and it's their first time under the Dexys Midnight Runners name since 1985's Don't Stand Me Down.
They're touring their new album, LOVE, which came out on 4 September on Heavenly Recordings. The lead single, 'My Life In England Pt.1', went ahead of it. The band describes LOVE as a deeply personal and emotionally rich record, and it gathers stories spanning singer Kevin Rowland's life. They've also suggested it may well mark the final chapter of the band's musical journey, so this is one of the few chances to hear it live.
For those coming to them later in the day, the name goes back a long way. Dexys Midnight Runners formed in Birmingham in 1978 and put out three critically and commercially successful albums in the 1980s: Searching For The Young Soul Rebels (1980), Too-Rye-Ay (1982), and Don't Stand Me Down (1985). That period also gave us the number-one hits 'Geno' (1980) and 'Come on Eileen' (1982). LOVE is their first release under the Dexys Midnight Runners name since that 1985 album, so it's been over forty years since they last put out a record with this name.
