Cameron Mackintosh and Matthew Bourne production of the Olivier, Tony and Oscar-winning musical adaptation of Dickens' Oliver Twist, with Matt Lucas as Fagin.
Oliver! is playing at The Gielgud Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue, and it's now in its second year in the West End. It's the musical adaptation of Dickens' Oliver Twist, with a score by Lionel Bart that pulls in the songs most people know: 'Food Glorious Food', 'Consider Yourself', 'You've Got to Pick-a-Pocket or Two', 'I'd Do Anything', 'Oom-Pah-Pah' and 'As Long As He Needs Me'. The show has picked up Olivier, Tony and Oscar awards along the way.
This particular production was fully reconceived by Cameron Mackintosh, with direction and choreography from Matthew Bourne. The design is by Lez Brotherston, with lighting by Olivier Award-winner Paule Constable and Ben Jacobs, sound by Adam Fisher and video by George Reeve. There's a 2024 London cast recording out if you want to hear the score before you go, and the show is recommended for ages seven and over.
The cast features Matt Lucas as Fagin for six weeks only, from 22 September, with Simon Lipkin also playing the role. Ava Brennan is Nancy, Aaron Sidwell is Bill Sikes, Aaron MacGregor is the Artful Dodger and Mark Lockyer is Mr Brownlow.
