Social visit by MACS to the Pictorialist photography exhibition 'Light and Magic' at Tate Modern, with a pub social afterwards.
MACS: Museum, Art & Culture Socials are heading to the Tate Modern on Saturday 7 November for Light and Magic, a show that takes a fresh look at the history of photography. The visit runs from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm, but the group meets beforehand at the Corner Cafe in the Tate Modern at 2:00 pm, so you've got a bit of time to settle in before heading into the galleries together. After the exhibition, there's an optional pub social if you fancy staying on.
Light and Magic is the first major show to explore Pictorialism as a global movement, and it tells the untold global story of art photography. It brings together more than 200 rare prints by over 80 artists from around the world — from Seoul to Sydney, New York to Cape Town, and Brazil to Singapore. The exhibition traces how these artists became pioneers of the darkroom and transformed our understanding of photography and image-making, and it's described as taking a fresh and inclusive look at the history of the medium. It's a wide-reaching survey, so you'll see work from a lot of different places and periods in one go.
