London City Ballet returns to Sadler's Wells with a double bill of two UK premieres: John Neumeier's 'Ghost Light' and Glen Tetley's 'The Firebird'.
London City Ballet are back at Sadler's Wells Theatre on Thursday 22, Friday 23 and Saturday 24 October, with a double bill they've titled Firebird. It's a bit of a homecoming: the company used to be resident here, and they're returning to their old home with two works making their UK premieres.
The first half is Ghost Light, a new version of John Neumeier's 2020 piece. It's being performed outside the Hamburg Ballet for the first time, and it features guest artist ballerina Alina Cojocaru. The second half is Glen Tetley's gothic retelling of The Firebird, originally made for the Royal Danish Ballet and set to Igor Stravinsky's score. This production arrives in the centenary year of Tetley's birth, and it brings back the original designer, Olivier Award winner John MacFarlane, who's revisiting his 1981 sets for it. Between the two, you've got music by Schubert and Stravinsky.
London City Ballet is an award-winning company, and this particular run is led by Artistic Director Christopher Marney. The whole evening runs two hours, with a 20-minute interval in the middle, and it's recommended for ages five and over.
