Class concert winter gala by L'Ecole de Ballet Classique, choreographed by Alyona Solovkova and Viaceslav Baltaga, tracing a dancer's class from basics to virtuosity.
L'Ecole de Ballet Classique are taking over the Lilian Baylis Studio at Sadler's Wells on Saturday 12 December for their Class Concert Winter Gala. It's a student showcase, so the whole evening is performed by the school's own dancers rather than a professional company.
The evening is built around a single, imaginative idea: a transcription of a ballet dancer's daily class. It follows that familiar journey from the very first beginners' exercises through to the heights of virtuosity, so you'll see the building blocks of ballet laid out in order. The choreography was created specifically for these students by Alyona Solovkova and Viaceslav Baltaga, and the programme doesn't stop at the class work — contemporary pieces sit alongside divertissements from the classics, so you get a mix of new choreography and the older, recognisable repertoire.
It's a guest event, meaning it's an independent hire rather than part of the Sadler's Wells season, which is worth keeping in mind if you're used to their usual programming. The Lilian Baylis Studio is tucked inside the main Sadler's Wells complex, with Angel tube station the nearest stop.
