Screening of the 1967 kaiju film 'King Kong Escapes' with an introduction, part of the Barbican's 'All Kaiju Attack: All Stars!' programme.
King Kong Escapes is showing at the Barbican on Saturday 17 October, part of the All Kaiju Attack: All Stars! programme. It's a dubbed screening of the 1966 kaiju film directed by Ishirō Honda, and it comes with an introduction before the film starts.
If you're familiar with the Toho monster movies, you'll know Honda as the man behind the original Godzilla. King Kong Escapes followed the runaway success of King Kong vs. Godzilla, and it's a proper 1960s creature feature. The plot centres on a Dr Who — no, not that one — who builds a robot version of Kong, Mechani-Kong, and kidnaps the real thing. That leads to a wild climax atop Tokyo Tower, where Kong ends up battling Kong. The film took its inspiration from an American animated series rather than its Toho predecessor, and it's got a memorable villain, grand monster battles and a thrilling finale.
