Family Film Club screening of the Studio Ghibli classic 'Kiki's Delivery Service', dubbed in English, for children aged 6 and up.
Kiki's Delivery Service is showing at Barbican Cinema 2 on Saturday 17 October, as part of the Barbican's Family Film Club. It's the English-dubbed version of the Studio Ghibli classic, which first came out in 1989, directed by Hayao Miyazaki and based on the book by Eiko Kadono.
The story follows Kiki, a thirteen-year-old witch who leaves home to find her place in the world, travelling by broomstick with her talking black cat, Jiji. Along the way, she sets up a delivery service and picks up lessons about kindness, community and growing up. The Barbican describes it as "Ghibli animation at its best", and it's got a BBFC U rating, with a suggested age of 6+.
It's part of the Family Film Club, the Barbican's regular cinema strand for young children. They screen a film every week, and they do it without ads, which is a nice touch when you're out with kids. They also run Parent and Baby screenings for under-12-month-olds on Saturday and Monday mornings. The club is popular and often sells out weeks in advance, so it's worth booking early if you're planning to go.
