South London dance and gospel duo Joy (Anonymous) play a live set at Hackney Church with support from Estère.
Joy (Anonymous) play Hackney Church on Saturday 24 October, with Estère opening the night. It's a homecoming of sorts: the duo built their following in the South London community and are returning to their home town after a sold-out residency at the Jazz Cafe earlier this year. They've described Hackney Church as one of London's most stunning venues, and they're filling it with a full live set.
The set will draw on the Joy (Anonymous) catalogue, but it's not just a best-of. They'll be playing new music from a forthcoming album, so this is one of the first chances to hear what's coming next. Their most recent single, 'JOY (Love's Not Real)', blends disco, house and gospel, and that mix of dancefloor energy and song-led writing sits right at the heart of what they do.
They're a dynamic duo who first started out in the pre-pandemic years. During the pandemic, they played a series of shows on the Southbank that brought joy to audiences struggling at the time, and they've built their reputation on high-energy, joyful live performances and on creating safe, collaborative spaces where truth, empowerment and authenticity remain central. Their last album, Human Again, was championed by Pete Tong, The Blessed Madonna and Fred Again.., with its making documented by Vice and written about on Notion. They frame their work as something bigger than music: creating shared experiences that uplift and connect people.
