4K restored screening of Roger Corman's 1960 Edgar Allan Poe film 'House of Usher' with Vincent Price, introduced by Julie Corman, at BFI Southbank.
BFI Southbank is screening House of Usher (1960) on Saturday 14 November, starting at 2:45pm. It's the first film in Roger Corman's celebrated Edgar Allan Poe cycle, the one that set the standard for everything that followed and launched his long collaboration with Vincent Price. Price plays Roderick Usher, a role he imbues with depth and an unexpected sensitivity, while the house itself provides the creeping horror. It became a huge hit for American International Pictures, the company most closely associated with Corman.
The print is a new 4K restoration completed at Roundabout from a 4K scan of the 35mm original negative, so it should look as sharp as it can on the big screen. The screening is introduced by Julie Corman, which adds a personal touch to the afternoon.

It's part of a wider six-week season at BFI Southbank called Movie Maverick: 100 Years of Roger Corman, marking the centenary of the man who spent his career as director, producer, distributor and actor. House of Usher is paired with other Corman titles throughout the season, including The Pit and the Pendulum (1961), The Raven (1963) and The Masque of the Red Death (1964), so if you're into the Poe cycle, there's more to catch around it. Tickets are £15.50 and booking is required.
