Drummer and producer Gengis Don brings his blend of jazz and hip-hop and a four-piece band to Ronnie Scott's at the EFG London Jazz Festival.
Gengis Don plays Ronnie Scott's on Friday 13 November, as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival. It's his first time at the club, and he's bringing a full four-piece band for the set. He'll be on drums and vocals, joined by Devaughn Durham on tenor saxophone, INSXGht on keys and synths, and Immanuel Simelane on electric bass.
Don is a Brooklyn-born drummer, producer and artist who describes his approach as making music from instinct, treating lyrics, melody and rhythm as parts of the same conversation. His sound is an open-ended blend of jazz and hip-hop, shaped by the pulse of his Brooklyn roots and driven by feeling rather than by fixed forms. At 30, he's already collaborated with a wide range of artists across those two worlds: Bilal, A$AP Ferg, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Marquis Hill, Christian McBride, Pink Siifu, keiyaA, Melanie Charles, Mavi, Braxton Cook and Anna Wise. This is his first time at Ronnie Scott's, where he'll be taking the stage with a full band rather than as a collaborator.
