Free monthly dementia-friendly gallery tour led by specially trained V&A guides, designed for people living with early-stage dementia and their family and friends.
The V&A South Kensington runs its Dementia-friendly Closer Look Tour on the last Monday of every month, except when that falls on a Bank Holiday. It's a recurring session rather than a one-off, so if you can't make one, there's usually another coming up a few weeks later.
The whole thing runs from 13:30 to 16:00, though the tour itself only takes about 45 minutes to an hour. It starts in the Art Studio in the Learning Centre on Level 0, where everyone gets refreshments and a bit of time to settle in before heading out. From there, you go on a gallery walk that pulls together a wide range of objects and artworks from the museum's collections, with the guides stopping to share the stories behind some of the V&A's most fascinating pieces.
These are bespoke tours led by the museum's specially trained guides, and they're designed for people living with early-stage dementia and their family and friends. The slower pace and the focus on storytelling make it a good way to experience the galleries without the rush of a general visit.
