UK premiere of Repertório N.3, a 40-minute dance piece by Davi Pontes and Wallace Ferreira about self-defence against violence, shortlisted for The Rose International Dance Prize.
Davi Pontes and Wallace Ferreira bring Repertório N.3 to Sadler's Wells East on Friday 5 February and Saturday 6 February, both nights starting at 7pm. It's a UK premiere, and the piece is 40 minutes long.
Repertório N.3 is the final part of a trilogy of choreographies about self-defence against physical, imaginary and systemic violence. Pontes and Ferreira created it in 2018, and it premiered in December 2023 at the 35th Bienal de São Paulo. The work draws on postcolonial, gender and race studies, and references martial arts to look for new ways of representing violence against oppressed groups. It asks how the body can defend itself without condoning violence; the dancers perform naked, wearing nothing but socks and trainers.
It's also part of the shortlist for The Rose International Dance Prize, Sadler's Wells' biennial award for original dance creations, which carries a prize of £40,000. Alongside it is the Bloom Prize of £15,000 for artists with up to ten years of choreographic experience. Both Pontes and Ferreira have a track record in the field: Pontes is a choreographer and researcher who received the ImPulsTanz Young Choreographers Award and the Prince Claus Seed Award in 2025; Ferreira is a choreographer and visual artist who received the ImPulsTanz Award for Young Choreographers in 2022 and the FOCO ARTRIO Award in 2024.
