The British Library's biggest exhibition of the year, marking 50 years since Christie's death with letters, notebooks, photographs and personal belongings of the 'Queen of Crime'.
Agatha Christie: A World of Mystery opens at The British Library on 30 October 2026, running through to 20 June 2027. It's the library's biggest exhibition of the year, mounted fifty years after Christie's death and put together in collaboration with Agatha Christie Limited and The Christie Archive Trust.
The show follows the life of the 'Queen of Crime', whose own travels across continents by train and her time working on archaeological digs helped shape characters like Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. You walk through atmospheric spaces inspired by her world: a grand country house, a First World War dispensary, an Orient Express-style carriage, an archaeological dig and a West End theatre, with hidden clues and Easter eggs to hunt for as you go.
Much of the display comes from letters, notebooks, photographs and personal belongings. Among them are Christie's 1937 Remington typewriter, her notes for the Witness for the Prosecution stage adaptation, the typescript of House of Beauty — the first short story she wrote as a teenager — and her 1917 pharmaceutical exam study notes. It also looks at why her work has such universal appeal, adapted into Bollywood films, French graphic novels and even a Chinese Poirot.
