Seed Talks Liverpool evening in which forensic psychologist Dr Jeffrey DeMarco uses neuroscience to explore the impact of early trauma on the developing brain, with a Q&A.
Dr Jeffrey DeMarco is at Capstone Theatre on Tuesday 8 December for The Neuroscience of Adverse Childhood Experiences, a talk that looks at how early life trauma changes the brain. It's part of the Seed Talks Liverpool collection, and the whole thing runs for two and a half hours.
DeMarco's focus is on how things like neglect, abuse and chronic stress alter the developing brains of children and adolescents, and how those changes shape emotions, learning, memory and decision-making well into adulthood. He doesn't leave it there, though; he also covers the role of support and resilience in helping the brain heal and grow after trauma.
He's a chartered forensic psychologist and Senior Technical Advisor for Protecting Children from Digital Harm at Save the Children UK, and he lectures on trauma at Middlesex University. He's spoken before the European Commission, Europol and UNICEF on online harms, radicalisation and the experience of trauma. You might recognise his ideas from his TEDx Royal Holloway talk The Importance of Trust or his 2025 podcast Privacy Talks.
