Fast-paced musical dance revue mixing musical theatre favourites and pop anthems performed with a live band by LIPA dance students.
Sunny with a Chance of Rain runs from Thursday 5 November to Saturday 7 November at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) on Mount Street, L1 9HF. It's a fast-paced, feel-good musical dance revue that mixes musical theatre favourites and pop anthems, all performed with a live band. The whole thing is built around dance, so expect a lot of movement on stage rather than a traditional plot.
It's a student production, put on by LIPA's third-year Dance students, so you're seeing a group of performers near the end of their degree. The show is described as uplifting escapism, packed with energy, humour and dazzling choreography, and it's designed to leave audiences smiling, singing and dancing long after the curtain falls. With a live band on hand, the music is played right there in the room rather than coming from a recording.
Because it's a revue, the set is a sequence of numbers rather than a single story, and the mix of musical theatre and pop means you'll recognise a good chunk of what they're performing. The live band adds a different energy to the room than a backing track, and the choreography is the main thing to watch for. It's suitable for audiences aged 14 and up, so it's fine to bring teenagers along.
