A family-friendly Halloween event with creepy crafts, slime making, storytelling and mask making, suitable for younger children.
Spooky Welly Walk returns to Sefton Park on Saturday 24 October, the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation's annual Halloween day out for families with younger children. It's built for the little ones to enjoy costumes and activities without the frightening scares, so it's a safe bet if you've got kids who aren't quite ready for the proper spooky stuff. It always falls when the trees in the park are in full autumnal colour, and it goes ahead come rain or shine, so you can count on it regardless of the weather.
The walk takes you through a series of stations with creepy crafts, slime making, storytelling and mask making, all run by friendly volunteers. Past attendees have described it as a well-organised family day out that tends to sell out, so it's worth getting your tickets sorted early rather than leaving it to the last minute. The event is named after Ian, a patient whose lung cancer was caught early through a lung health check and who is now in remission.
Everything raised from ticket sales and the activity stations goes to the Foundation, which uses the money to provide information and support, campaign for earlier diagnosis and fund lung cancer research. You're encouraged to dress up and raise extra by sponsoring the children, so it's a good excuse to get the costumes out and make a bit more for the cause.

It starts at the Samuel Smith Obelisk, 'The Needle', near the Aigburth Drive entrance (L17 3AA), with gates opening at 10:45am and the day wrapping up by 4:30pm. Tickets are £8 per person or £30 for a family of four, and children under two go free, though you still need to book a ticket for them. Everyone needs one, so make sure you've got the whole group covered before you head over.
