Interactive family show with live music, puppets and storytelling based on the picture book by Kristina Stephenson.
Sir Charlie Stinky Socks and the Really Big Adventure opens at the Everyman Theatre on Tuesday 27 October, running through to Saturday 31 October. It's an interactive family show based on the picture book by Kristina Stephenson, and the author herself is part of the production, appearing as narrator and signing copies of the book after every Liverpool performance.
The show was created to mark the twentieth anniversary of the book, and it's built around live music, puppets, interactive storytelling and magical props. It's a fast-paced hour with no interval, and the whole thing is designed to get the audience involved rather than just sitting and watching. Stephenson describes it as a celebration of the power of children's imagination and the importance of play, and it's written to invite young audiences to become storytellers themselves.
It's best suited to ages 3 to 10, though all ages are welcome. There are a couple of content warnings to keep in mind: haze and smoke are used throughout, and there's a short dragon roar in there, so it's worth knowing if you've got a little one who's particularly sensitive to noise. Otherwise, it's a straightforward family outing.
