Third-year acting students at LIPA stage the musical play 'Our House', built around the music of Madness.
Our House runs at the George Harrison Workshop Studio, LIPA from Thursday 3 December to Saturday 5 December, three nights of the music of Madness. It's a production from LIPA's third-year Acting (Musicianship) students, who'll be playing the songs themselves rather than relying on a backing track.
If you're not familiar with the show, Our House is an actor-musician piece built around the music of Madness and the energy of British 2-Tone ska. The story centres on a single choice made on one unforgettable night, and from there it follows two different versions of the life that might have been. It's a play that lets the songs do a lot of the heavy lifting, so it's the kind of thing that works best when the music is coming from the stage.
This isn't the first time it's been around. It first opened at the Cambridge Theatre in London on 28 October 2002, produced by Tiger Aspect Productions, Rupert Lord, Andre Ptaszynski and Phil McIntyre in association with Madness. The LIPA staging is an amateur production, presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International, and it's suitable for audiences aged 12 and over.
