A concert rendition of Jeff Wayne's iconic concept album, featuring a live band, symphonic orchestra, West End performers and CGI animations.
Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds comes to Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on Monday 19 October, presented by Kilimanjaro Live. It's a concert rendition of Wayne's original double album, which has sold millions of copies since it first came out in 1978 and is still one of the most successful concept albums of all time. The whole thing is based on H.G. Wells' dark Victorian tale of Martian invasion, and it's a favourite with audiences of all ages.
On stage, you'll find a live band, a symphonic orchestra and vintage synthesizers, with West End performers taking on the roles of the Journalist, the Parson and the Artilleryman. They'll be singing through the album's hits, like 'The Eve of the War' and 'Forever Autumn', while the original artwork and synchronised widescreen CGI animations project behind the musicians. It's a first of its kind on home shores: Wayne steps back from the podium and lets the show run as a companion to his arena tours.
The Philharmonic Hall is a fully seated auditorium with reserved seating, and the show is recommended for ages 8 and above, with under-14s needing an adult. Doors open at 19:00, the concert starts at 19:30, and there's a 20-minute interval at 20:35, with the whole thing finishing by 22:00.
