Monthly community market of local traders with bric-a-brac, vintage clothing, crafts and food, expanded as a Christmas market in December.
Granby Street Market returns to Granby Street in Toxteth on Saturday 5 December, and this time it's the Christmas market edition. It's one of the city's most distinctive community markets, and the December one usually expands into a full Christmas market, so it's a good spot if you're starting your shopping early.
There's a real story behind it, too. It started back in 2010 as a one-man table sale on Cairns Street, run by a local resident and a handful of neighbours when only about eight households still lived on the street, surrounded by tinned-up houses. More organisers joined in 2012, and after a year's relocation to Ducie Street in 2015, it returned to Granby Street in 2016. Now it's run entirely by local volunteers and community members through the Granby 4 Streets community land trust, and it's grown into a monthly fixture of 70 to 80 traders.
On the day, you'll find bric-a-brac, vintage clothing, memorabilia, handmade soaps, and arts and crafts. There's also a dedicated food area serving hot international cuisine and home-cooked food, so you can grab something to eat while you browse. The December edition expands on the usual monthly setup to take on the Christmas market theme, which means a few more stalls and a festive feel to the whole thing.
