Musical theatre show by third-year Acting (Musical Theatre) students at LIPA, set in 1940s Hollywood.
City of Angels runs at the Paul McCartney Auditorium from Thursday 10 December to Saturday 12 December, three nights in the heart of LIPA. It's a production by the third-year Acting (Musical Theatre) students at the Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts, so you're seeing a final-year show rather than a professional tour.
The story is set in 1940s Hollywood and works its way between two very different worlds. One is the glamorous Technicolor life of a struggling screenwriter; the other is the shadowy black-and-white world of his hard-boiled detective. As the show goes on, those two worlds start to bleed into each other until they're almost impossible to tell apart. It's a musical, so the songs carry the story through both sides of that divide.
Because it's a student production, it's an amateur show, presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd on behalf of Tams-Witmark LLC. The cast is made up of those third-year Acting (Musical Theatre) students, so the singing and acting are the main draw here. It's suitable for audiences aged 12 and over, as it contains adult themes, which is worth keeping in mind if you're bringing anyone younger along.

It runs for three nights, Thursday 10, Friday 11, and Saturday 12 December, at the Paul McCartney Auditorium inside LIPA. If you're around the city that week, it's a good chance to catch some of the final-year work coming out of the institute.
