Ballet of Lights reimagines Cinderella as a ballet with glow-in-the-dark costumes, set to classical music, for ages 5 and over.
Ballet of Lights bring Cinderella to the Liverpool Playhouse Theatre on Saturday 28 November, with two shows that afternoon and evening. It's a reimagining of the classic fairy tale as a ballet, and the hook is in the costumes: the dancers wear glow-in-the-dark, illuminated outfits that light up the stage. The whole story is told through dance, colour and light, from the stepsisters' antics to the opulence of the Royal Ball and the romance between the Prince and Cinderella.
It's not the company's first go at this. They've toured Peter Pan to audiences around the world, and this production follows a similar line, pairing classical dance with a contemporary twist. The music comes from a soundtrack drawing on some of the greatest classical composers, so you'll recognise the sound even if you've never seen a ballet before.
Practical side: the performance runs for about 60 minutes with no interval, and doors open half an hour before each show. It's recommended for ages five and over, with children under 16 needing an adult. A couple of things to keep in mind before you book: the venue isn't wheelchair accessible, and seats are allocated first-come, first-served within each zone, so if you're particular about where you sit, getting in early is your best bet.
