Revival of the musical about a timid florist and his singing, talking plant Audrey II, directed by Carrie-Anne Ingrouille.
Little Shop of Horrors opens at the Liverpool Playhouse on Thursday 3 December, running through to Saturday 9 January. It's a long run for a single show, and the press night is on Thursday 10 December, so you've got plenty of dates to choose from across the Christmas break. The show runs about two hours, including an interval.
Set in the run-down neighbourhood of Skid Row, it's the story of a timid florist assistant who finds a mysterious singing and talking plant, Audrey II, which promises him everything he's ever wanted but grows a terrifying appetite. The score is by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, the songwriting team behind The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin, and the whole thing is loosely based on the 1960 black comedy film that inspired the 1986 Frank Oz production. This revival is directed and choreographed by Tony and Olivier Award nominee Carrie-Anne Ingrouille, who worked on SIX, and it's billed as the longest sit-down production of the show in the UK since the 2007 West End run.

It plays as a campy B-movie horror-comedy, pairing gory sci-fi premises with a high-energy 1960s pop, doo-wop and Motown score, and a biting social critique of unchecked greed and the American Dream. The cast features Jed Berry as Seymour, Jessie Elland as Audrey, Michael Starke as Mr Mushnik, Marcus Ayton as Audrey II, and Benjamin Yates as Orin Scrivello, with Psalms-Nissi Myers-Reid, Gabrielle Davina Smith, Rio Maye, Ella Howlett and Joseph Peacock in the ensemble. Tickets range from £17 to £62.
