Hands-on workshop for school-age children to build bridges and dams and design a boat to explore the power of rivers.
Waterway Exploration comes to the Garfield Park Branch on Wednesday, November 18, from 11 AM to 12 PM. It's a session run by the Indiana State Museum, and it's aimed at school-age kids between 6 and 12.
The whole hour turns the world of waterways into a hands-on challenge. Instead of just listening to a talk, the kids get to build bridges and dams, design a boat, and test their creativity and problem-solving skills. The goal is to uncover the power and complexity of rivers by actually working with them, so it's more of a workshop than a lecture.
If you've got a kid in that age range who likes to build things, this is right up their alley. It's the kind of session where they can get their hands dirty and see how things actually work, and since it's run by the museum, it's got a bit more behind it than your average craft hour. It's a good way to spend a Wednesday morning if you're around the south side.
