Workshop on gardening basics, including planting, soil, plant care and tips for starting a home garden.
Amy Mullen is leading Teen Gardening 101 at the Garfield Park Branch on Tuesday, October 27, from 6 PM to 7 PM. It's a session built for teens who want to get their hands in the dirt but aren't quite sure where to start.
Mullen walks through the basics of planting, soil, and plant careโthe kind of foundational stuff that usually feels a bit vague until someone actually shows you how it works. You'll go over how to get seeds in the ground, what soil actually does for a plant, and how to keep things alive once they've taken root. Beyond the basics, she shares a few hacks for putting together a home garden, which is the part that makes it feel doable even if you don't have a huge backyard to work with.

It's a single hour, so it doesn't take up your whole evening. If you've been wanting to start growing your own things but didn't know which end of the trowel to hold, this is a good place to pick up the fundamentals. The session runs from 6 PM to 7 PM at the Garfield Park Branch on Tuesday, October 27.
