Car-free, well-lit trick-or-treat route along the Downtown Canal with treat stops, a kids' concert, boat rides and games.
Trail & Treat on the Canal returns to the Canal Walk on Saturday, October 24, from 5 PM to 7 PM. For those two hours, the Downtown Canal turns into a car-free, well-lit trick-or-treat route with treat stops hosted by local businesses and community partners. The route runs along the canal and takes you through White River State Park, so it's a good stretch of walking that keeps you away from traffic.
There's more here than just the candy. A kids' concert with Mr. Daniel will be playing, and you can hop on free mini 'Eerie' Canal boat rides with the Old World Gondoliers. You'll also find balloon animals, yard games, the Colts Canal Playspace, and the Pawp-Up Pup Park. Fresco Italian Cafe will be handing out caramel apple slushies, and the Indianapolis Fire and Metropolitan Police Departments will be stopping by. If you're bringing a dog, leashed and well-behaved ones are welcome—and dog costumes are encouraged. There's an information tent with maps, extra bags, and first aid across from the Colts Canal Playspace by the Orange Bridge if you need a home base.

The evening runs alongside the Eiteljorg Museum's DĂa de Muertos Community Celebration on the museum's terrace, so you can easily make a night of both. The whole thing is a partnership between the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, the Downtown Indy Alliance, and the city's Department of Metropolitan Development. It's free to attend, though registration is strongly encouraged. The Canal Walk is at 801 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46204, along the Downtown Canal, on Saturday, October 24, from 5 PM to 7 PM.
