Inaugural SHPE community day with a main-stage science show, FIRST Robotics demonstrations, hands-on STEM activities and a College Exploration Pavilion.
SHPE STEM Familia Fest comes to the Indiana Convention Center on Saturday, October 31, from 10 AM to 2 PM. It's the first community event from the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, the country's largest association for the Hispanic community in STEM. The organization is taking its mission outside the walls of its convention and into the city, partnering with local groups to reach K-12 students, parents and educators. The day runs alongside DĂa de Ciencias and an undergraduate college fair, and they're expecting more than 1,500 community attendees.
There's a fair amount to do across the floor. The main stage features It's Not Magic, It's Science! with Jay Flores, presented by Cummins. You'll see FIRST Robotics demonstrations and a range of hands-on STEM activities—robotics, coding and discovery labs—that kids can actually get their hands on. For older students, there's a College Exploration Pavilion, and for parents, the Equipando Padres parent academy. It's built as a family day, so you can bring the kids and spend a few hours moving between the stage, the labs and the college resources.
