Free evening with a gallery reception and book launch and discussion of 'Solly and the Elephant' about the B'nei Israel of India, part of the Ann Katz Festival of Books & Arts.
Rabbi Sandy Eisenberg Sasso and Siona Benjamin are coming to the Arthur M. Glick JCC on Sunday, November 1, for a book launch and gallery opening centered on the B'nei Israel of India. The evening is part of the 28th Annual Ann Katz Festival of Books & Arts, presented by JCC Indianapolis and sponsored by Congregation Beth-El Zedeck in partnership with Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation and the Indianapolis Jewish Community Relations Council.
The night is split into two parts. It kicks off at 6 PM with a gallery reception featuring Siona Benjamin's art, and then moves into the book launch and discussion at 7 PM, moderated by J.R. Sandadi. Both the art and the book focus on the legacy and traditions of the B'nei Israel, the Jewish community of India, so you can see the visual side of the story before hearing the authors talk through it.
The book itself is titled Solly and the Elephant, written by Sasso and Benjamin. The discussion will be a chance to hear them talk about the work and the community that inspired it, with Sandadi leading the conversation. If you're only around for one half, the gallery reception is the better bet for a casual walk-through; if you want the full context, sticking around for the 7 PM talk is the way to go.
