Free public reading by author Patricia Lockwood, winner of the Thurber Prize, in the Vivian S. Delbrook Visiting Writers Series.
Patricia Lockwood is coming to Shelton Auditorium on Wednesday, October 28, as part of the Vivian S. Delbrook Visiting Writers Series. It's a reading presented in partnership with Indiana Humanities, and since Lockwood was born in Fort Wayne, this is a homecoming of sorts.
If you haven't come across her work yet, she's a novelist, essayist, memoirist, and poet known for a fearless voice and a singular style that's reshaped the literary landscape. Her novel No One is Talking About This was a Booker Prize finalist and one of The New York Times Book Review's 10 Best Books of 2021; The Atlantic hailed it as one of the Great American Novels of the past 100 years. Her memoir Priestdaddy won the Thurber Prize and made the New York Times 10 Best Books list in 2017. Beyond those, she's published two poetry collections and the viral prose-poem "Rape Joke," and she's a contributing editor at The London Review of Books.
Lockwood's work spans a few different forms—novel, memoir, poetry, and essays—and she's a Dylan Thomas Prize winner. The reading is part of the Visiting Writers Series, which brings authors to the city for an evening of their work. It's a good chance to hear her read in person, especially if you've only read her on the page.
