Sneak peek of the multimedia musical 'Moses Man: Finding Home' by Deborah Haber, about her parents, Holocaust survivors who fled Vienna, at the JCC Indianapolis.
Deborah Haber brings a sneak peek of her musical Moses Man: Finding Home to JCC Indianapolis on Sunday, November 8, at 7 PM. It's a multimedia presentation, so you'll see more than just a performance on stage. The story is a personal one: Haber wrote the musical about her own parents, Holocaust survivors who fled Vienna during Hitler's annexation and eventually found refuge in America. The show traces their nine-year journey from Europe to the United States.
This is a sneak peek, not a full production, so it's a first look at the work before it goes further. The multimedia side means you'll get visuals alongside the music and the story, rather than just a script read or a song cycle. It's a family history told through song, and since it's Haber's own parents at the center, it's a project that comes from her own life.
The evening is part of the 28th Annual Ann Katz Festival of Books & Arts, which runs from October 25 to November 17. The festival started as a one-week book fair and grew into a full cultural arts program in 2000, when Irwin "Irv" Katz began making a significant annual contribution. It was renamed to honor his wife, Ann, who was a lifelong reader. Katz was devoted to the JCC for more than 70 years, serving as president of its board of directors from 1950-52 and again from 1958-61 during the move to the current 24,000-square-foot facility. The festival is funded by the Irwin and Ann Katz Cultural Arts and Education Endowment Fund.
