Free after-hours session of Teen Central, the Indianapolis Public Library's teen programme, where teens aged 12 to 18 explore art, technology, games and science in the new Teen Space.
Teen Zone is back at the Central Library on Tuesday, November 17, from 5 PM to 7 PM. It's run by Teen Central, the Indianapolis Public Library's teen program, and takes place in the library's new Teen Space on the second floor. The session is open to teens ages 12 to 18, and you don't need to register to come by.
Inside the Teen Space, you'll find free materials to explore art, technology, games, and science. The whole point is that you can pick whatever catches your eye and learn new skills at your own pace, rather than following a set lesson. If you're into making things, gaming, or just messing around with tech and science, it's a good spot to spend a couple of hours.
It's worth remembering where this sits. The Central Library is the hub of the whole Indianapolis Public Library system. The original 1917 building was designed by Paul Cret and built of Indiana limestone in the Greek Doric style, and it's widely considered one of the most outstanding secular buildings in the US. A six-story glass and steel-framed addition by Evans Woollen opened in 2007, so the library blends the old limestone with a lot of modern glass.

Beyond the Teen Zone sessions, Teen Central also houses the library's collections of teen novels, teen nonfiction, and teen graphic novels, along with a 'Quick Reads' collection and computers for teens during open hours. The session on November 17 runs from 5 PM to 7 PM, it's free, and you can just walk in.
