Workshop for teens on gardening basics like planting, soil, and plant care, plus hacks for creating a home garden.
Amy Mullen is leading a gardening workshop for teens at the Franklin Road Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library on Thursday, November 12. It runs from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM, so it's a quick hour in the late afternoon—easy to swing by after school without taking up the whole evening.
The session is built around the basics of getting a garden off the ground. Mullen covers the fundamentals: how to plant, how to work with soil, and the day-to-day care that keeps things alive once they're in the dirt. If you've never touched a trowel, that's where you start. From there, she adds in some practical hacks for putting together a home garden, the kind of small-scale tips that make it work even if you don't have a huge backyard to work with.
It's aimed at teens, so it's a good spot for younger gardeners to pick up the ropes in a group rather than trying to figure it out on their own. If you know a teenager who's expressed interest in growing their own food or just wants to see something actually grow, this is a straightforward way to get them started.
