ID Fit strength-training session with Becca Biedler on basic exercises, progress tracking and working out with minimal equipment, for adults and seniors.
Becca Biedler leads a strength training session at the Warren Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library on Friday, December 4, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. It's part of the ID Fit program, and it's aimed at adults and seniors.
Biedler walks you through basic strength-training exercises and the terminology that goes with them, so you'll know what the moves are called and why they're done that way. She also covers how to track your progress and how to work out with minimal equipment, which is the part that actually makes it sustainable—you don't need a gym membership to keep it going. The hour includes a warm-up and a cool-down, so it's a complete session from start to finish. And if you want to keep moving after the class, you'll get access to Biedler's online platform to continue the exercises at home.
The library frames the whole thing around the idea that strength training in older adulthood makes a real difference, and they point to Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who attributed her longevity and success to it. It's a nice reminder that this isn't just about fitness for fitness's sake, but about staying capable and independent as the years add up.

The session is made possible by The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation with support from Honda. It's hosted at the Warren Branch, a 16,000-square-foot library at 9701 East 21st Street that opened in 1974 and went through a $1.1 million renovation completed in 2016. Registration opens on November 4, so you'll have a few weeks to sign up before the December 4 date.
