Weekly Thursday morning storytime session for children aged 0 to 5 and their adults, with stories, songs, crafts and playtime.
Storytime is back at the Indianapolis Public Library Spades Park Branch on Thursday, October 29, from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM. It's a weekly Thursday morning session for children aged 0 to 5 and their adults, so it's built for the little ones and the grown-ups who come with them.
The session itself is a mix of stories and songs, with a bit more thrown in, and it runs for half an hour. When the reading part wraps up, there's another half hour of crafts and playtime, which is the part where the kids can actually get their hands on something and move around. If you're bringing a toddler, that second half is usually the highlight.
The Spades Park Branch is one of Indianapolis's two remaining Carnegie libraries, built with a $120,000 grant from the Andrew Carnegie Foundation and opened in 1912—six months after the East Washington Branch. The 7,500-square-foot building went through a $610,000 renovation in 1987 and celebrated its centenary in 2012. It's a piece of the city's library history that's still in use, and this is one of the programs that keeps it going.
