Four-hour interactive workshop with Denola M. Burton on writing, publishing and marketing a book, from idea to distribution.
Denola M. Burton is leading a self-publishing workshop at the Central Library on Wednesday, November 4, from 1 PM to 5 PM. It's a four-hour session that goes past the basics to help you build a personalized roadmap for writing, publishing, and marketing your book. You'll work on refining your initial idea, identifying a target audience, and drawing up a realistic writing plan, then move into the professional side of things—ISBNs, copyright, formatting, and distribution—with hands-on exercises and practical tools to use along the way.
Burton knows the territory. She's the founder and CEO of Enhanced DNA: Develop Nurture Achieve, LLC, and a member of the Independent Book Publishing Association (IBPA). She started the Enhanced DNA Publishing Division in 2019 specifically to help new authors publish books that meet IBPA standards, so the session is built around those professional benchmarks rather than just getting a file online. If you've been sitting on a manuscript or a solid idea and aren't sure how to turn it into a finished, distributed book, this is where you get the actual steps mapped out.

The workshop is in the Riley meeting room at the Central Library, 40 East Saint Clair Street, the hub of the Indianapolis Public Library system. The building itself is a bit of a local landmark: the original 1917 structure by Paul Cret is Greek Doric, and it was expanded in 2007 with a six-story glass and steel addition by Evans Woollen. It's a good spot to spend an afternoon working through a project like this. The session runs from 1 PM to 5 PM on Wednesday, November 4, in the Riley meeting room at the Central Library.
