Open self-care session led by JayAmi Sellers to process emotions through painting, collage, drawing and mixed media, with an optional group conversation.
Room to Bloom comes to the Wayne Branch on Monday, November 16, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Led by JayAmi Sellers, it's an invitation to reconnect with yourself and engage in self-expression through art, framed as self-care. It's not a traditional workshop or a skill-based class, but an open space for emotional processing, communal care, and creative exploration. You'll spend the session playing with paint, collage, drawing, and mixed media, and there's an optional group conversation at the end if you're in the mood to talk. The library rounds out the evening with book lists on mindfulness, self-care, and creativity for you to take home and use as further creative self-support.
That's a good way to think about it: it's more about the process than the product. You aren't there to master a technique or walk away with a finished masterpiece; you're there to use the materials to work through whatever's on your mind. The mixed-media approach means you can jump between painting, collaging, and drawing as you go, so you don't have to commit to just one way of working. And since the group conversation at the end is optional, you can choose whether you want to share your experience or just keep the evening to yourself.

The session is held at the Wayne Branch, located at 198 South Girls School Road in Indianapolis. The branch first opened in December 1969 in a shopping center at 7341 Rockville Road, moved to its permanent 13,500-square-foot location in 1984, and underwent a $1.1 million renovation in 2020. The program is made possible with support from Friends of the Library through gifts to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation. It runs from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM on Monday, November 16.
